Copy editing:

delves into the minutia of consistency, sentence structure, and grammar.

How Does it work?

I’ll review your manuscript page by page and word by word for issues with grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation. I’ll also cover use of colloquial idioms, metaphors, and phrases—is it baited breath or bated breath? It’s ok if you don’t know the difference; that’s what I’m here for! My attention to detail will also be on your details. Does your female main character have blonde hair on page ten, blond hair on page twenty, and silver hair on page fourth-five? We’ll fix that. I’ll ensure your novel follows guidance and best practices from relevant style authorities, and make corrections and recommendations for improvement.

Your manuscript will be returned to you with copyedits applied via the Track Changes feature of Microsoft Word. All edits will adhere to The Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.); application of Australian or United Kingdom style guides available upon request. As part of your package you’ll also receive a copy of a personalized style sheet, which will include important details like which dictionaries and style guides have been applied, queries (questions) from me to you regarding changes that I’m recommending, and things to look out for as you continue to write.

What are your rates?

Some manuscripts require more editing than others, often based on author experience and background. That’s ok! During our initial planning meeting, we’ll spend time reviewing up to five pages of your writing to determine how much editing your manuscript needs. Rates are scaled to reflect the time required for different levels of support.

Copyediting starts at $0.018 per word
