Line editing:

addresses big-picture voice or literary style issues while ensuring an immersive reading experience.

How Does it work?

I’ll read through your manuscript from start to finish, looking for what makes sense, what doesn’t, and what we can write better. While we won’t touch on the overall plot, we will dive deep into how every word of every line contributes to telling your story. This work includes expanding what could be made more clear, cutting what says too much, easing transitions, and smoothing the flow and pace. Importantly, we’ll also be looking for consistency in the details—is your love interest with a tragic backstory Greyson in one chapter but Grayson in another? We’ll fix that, plus other character and world details that need to be precise. Did you start one paragraph in present tense only to end in past? Don’t worry. We’ll fix that, too.

Your manuscript will be returned to you with line edits applied via the Track Changes feature of Microsoft Word. All edits will adhere to The Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.); application of Australian or United Kingdom style guides available upon request. As part of your package you’ll also receive a copy of a personalized style sheet, which will include important details like which dictionaries and style guides have been applied, queries (questions) from me to you regarding changes that I’m recommending, and things to look out for as you continue to write.

What are your rates?

Some manuscripts require more editing than others, often based on author experience and background. That’s ok! During our initial planning meeting, we’ll spend time reviewing up to five pages of your writing to determine how much editing your manuscript needs. Rates are scaled to reflect the time required for different levels of support.

Line editing starts at $0.020 per word
